Our lightly sweetened (low glycemic index)  jamu is a blend aromatic roots (turmeric, ginger, galangal, and lemongrass) and spices, brewed to perfection to deliver essential vitamins and minerals for a healthy functioning body.

Indonesians, especially Javanese, believes a healthy body and mind begin with jamu. To us, jamu is a family tradition and we blend them just like our ancestors had done many centuries ago. With that in mind, we introduce our five classic blend  that can boost your immune system and mental alertness, reduce inflammation, and overall health. 



In 2009, Sajen began operation in San Francisco as an artisan producer of jamu with a strong commitment of using only organic, fresh-cut local ingredients and family recipes. Making jamu is a family tradition that began by its ancestral maternal grandmothers in small hamlet (Para’an) in Central Java, a few hours away from Borobudur Temple.



In 2011, Sajen received a travel award and it took the company to London and Malaysia. In Malaysia, it formed a sister company Sajen Foods & Beverage Sdn. Bhd with local partners and farmers. The goal is to grow its own raw ingredients such as turmeric, ginger and other root spices known for their healing benefits yet still unknown to the mainstream medical community. The company will work closely with local farmers to practice organic as well as bio-dynamic cultivation, as our ancestors had done before the proliferation of chemical fertilizers. Sajen is committed to revive, remember, and honor the farming principles of our ancestors that are in harmony with mother earth.

Ethnic Javanese and Balinese in Indonesia, view jamu (began as a drink) as a way of life. They have it the morning and afternoon. Throughout the years,  jamu has evolved from an herbal drink to  skincare and herbal supplement products. But our approach to jamu remains the same, in a form of refreshing and healing brew just like our grandmothers prepared them.

The origin of jamu remains a mystery but its impact on Indonesians is enormous. Many claimed that jamu began in ancient palaces in Yogjakarta and Solo but to us  jamu began in the kitchen of our ancestral grandmothers in Central Java, Indonesia. Jamu is a delicate blend of roots, leaves, barks, flower buds, fruits, and spices, brewed to energize and immunize the body, naturally! It is a "go-to" solution for common ailments, ranging from common cold and aches and pains to infertility and  libido.  People in Bali and Java depend on jamu drinks for their health, energy, strength, body-mind balance, and internal and external radiance. 

There are more than three hundred known jamu blends, but there are about ten common jamu blends in the market. Blenders do make special blends, on-demand. It functions as health tonic and refreshing drinks to the people in rural areas (kampung) jamu remains their health-care system. People living in the urban areas such as Jakarta consume jamu as a dietary supplement and beauty products.

Before the creation of aspirins and antibiotics, Javanese created jamu - a solution to their health issues.  Our ancestors worked hard to create jamu blends made of local, sustainable, fresh cut aromatic roots and spices assembled from the forests of the tropical region of the world,  the source of raw ingredients for two-third of all pharmaceutical products. 
 
Jamu is well-known to Indonesians, Malaysians, and Singaporeans, as they consume it to heal wounds quickly, rejuvenate, and strengthen immune system. Eight fluid ounce a day is good for the body and mind.
